Understanding Gin — Tasting It Pure & in Cocktails
This workshop is designed to help you understand what gin really is, beyond brands, labels, and Gin & Tonics.
Not all gins are the same.
And once you understand why, choosing a gin — and using it — becomes much easier.
In this workshop, you’ll taste a carefully selected range of gins, chosen to represent different styles, histories, and production methods.
Each gin is tasted twice:
• first pure, to understand its profile, structure, and identity
• then in the same cocktail, so you can observe how it behaves once mixed
The cocktail stays the same.
The gin changes.
And suddenly, the differences become obvious.
⸻
What this workshop is really about
The goal is not to learn a recipe.
It’s to understand how gin is made, and how production choices shape what you taste.
You’ll start to see:
• why two gins can give completely different results in the same cocktail
• how distillation, maceration, ageing, or compounding influence flavour
• how to choose a gin consciously, depending on what you want to do
At the end, you won’t just have “tasted gin”.
👉 You’ll understand it.
And once you understand gin,
you stop choosing bottles randomly — and start choosing them with intention.
